Merseyside Youth Senate looks for new recruites |
17 March 2006 |
|
"Get involved and get your voices heard", that's the plea from the Merseyside Youth Housing Senate which was formed during the run up to Youth Voice 2004 Conference.
The Senate are a group of young people who meet regularly to discuss and debate issues such as housing, crime, lack of provision/facilities and regeneration. They helped to organise last year's conference from choosing the venue, facilitating workshops, delivering the opening speech plus acting as vital crew members on the day. The Senate will soon be organising Youth Voice 2006, including selecting the venue, which will take place later this year in October.
The Senate have recently taken part in a two day training programme which will enable them to work with different agencies such as the Liverpool Maritime Museum and New Heartlands, with the aim of becoming involved in projects run by these agencies.
Sarah Jane Saunders, Director of Maritime Housing Association said "The Senate is an instrumental vehicle for Young People, it enables them to express their opinions about things that are important to them and affect them every day. It means they can get involved in projects and activities which will go far to resolving these issues. It also helps to engender team working and community spirit among the young recruits".
Youth Voice is an annual conference (held during October half term) where young people have the opportunity to speak about issues that affect them and get information on a wide range of youth service providers. Approximately 150 young people, between the ages of 11-18 attended last year's Youth Voice conference, held at Liverpool Football Club and organised by Maritime Housing Association.
