15 new Regenda apprentices for award winning project

Regenda Apprentices 2015

Meet a group of young people with a busy and exciting year ahead of them.

Following the award-winning success of the Regenda Group’s first Community Wellbeing Apprentices scheme, a second project has now been launched.

The 15 new apprentices will be supported and coached as they seek out career opportunities, study and take part in practical projects which benefit local communities across Liverpool.

Gaining work experience will be essential, so the search is on to find local companies willing to offer work placements to the apprentices.

Regenda’s project leader, Kevin Short, said: “We know from our first project that on-the-job work placements make all the difference. Employers who can offer two days a week will be opening doors and giving our apprentices priceless experience which will influence their career choices and potentially have a huge impact on their lives.”

Tom Hannell - Regenda apprentice

The second Community Wellbeing Apprentices project differs from the first because the age group is younger, focussing on 16 and 17 year olds, it has been shortened to one year instead of two and Regenda is being supported by partner organisations.

Each of the new apprentices was chosen because they were not in education, employment or training, showed personal enthusiasm to succeed and were keen to get involved in improving their wider community.

Seventeen year old Tom Hannell from Anfield, who hopes to become a plumber, says he is delighted to have been selected.

“I’m finding it really brilliant. We’re all getting along really well, learning about respect and team building and I’m already feeling more confident and positive about myself.  I’m taking it very seriously and if I get given a task to do I’ll do it,” said Tom.

Three of the previous Community Wellbeing Apprentices, Tam Hardman, Jenni Dodd and Anthony Denneny, are now busy coaching the new intake.
