Minister blesses foundations for the future in West Lancashire

A church minister has blessed the first Regenda Homes development to include a chapel.

At a foundation stone-laying ceremony, the Rev Kevin Jones said the new place of worship under construction at Hesketh Bank in West Lancashire represents an important new start for local village communities.

Regenda has demolished the old Methodist church in the village, which had stood empty and neglected for years, to make way for six new apartments for affordable rent and eight houses for shared ownership. As part of the redevelopment a new combined chapel, village hall and café is being build on the same land.

The Rev Jones said: “Although local people may lament the loss of the old church it will be a joy to have a modern building which will be welcoming and more suited to present day worship. The stone-laying ceremony is both a blessing and a thanksgiving for the new start.”

Around 50 villagers from Hesketh Bank and nearby Tarleton turned out to watch the minister perform the stone-laying ceremony.

It’s hoped the new chapel and village hall will be finished by Easter of next year.
