Ready for Work

Project Overview

“LIVERPOOL has been ranked as the area with the highest number of unemployed homes for another year.

The report, entitled Workless households for regions across the UK 2015, has ranked each county or local authority in the UK based on its average employment rating during the five year period between 2011 and 2015 to assess which areas consistently performed well or poorly.

Liverpool was ranked as the number one county with the most unemployed households yet again”. The Express October 2016

In contrast, The Telegraph reported in April 2017, “Liverpool is at the forefront of Britain’s booming job market…Job vacancies in the UK jumped 14.1pc in March compared to February, with Liverpool seeing an almost 20pc rise in vacancies”.

The Big Trust are a charity based in Liverpool who deliver the Ready for Work programme. The Big Trust through RfW aims to reduce unemployment across Merseyside by providing essential training, support and ‘a foot in the door’ to individuals who have been long term unemployed and may have barriers to employment such as mental health issues, previous homelessness or may be ex-offenders.

The RfW programme consists of two days pre-employability training delivered by Room to Think followed by a two week work experience placement with a reputable employer such as Marks & Spencer, Waitrose, Carillion Construction and The Regenda Group. Once the two week placement is completed the participant may well be offered a job by their placement company or they will receive ongoing mentoring from the Big Trust to support them with either further training or moving into employment within the following 6 to 12 months.

Regenda have worked in partnership with the Big Trust for the last two cohorts and together have achieved some fantastic outcomes for our Liverpool residents.
