New Regenda Homes development in Lancashire helps to keep it in the family

Two couples who are expecting their first babies have become the first to move into a new housing development built to help keep local families together.

A strict lettings policy ensured only applicants living in surrounding parishes were considered for the Regenda Homes properties in the village of Bilsborrow, near Garstang in Lancashire.

Developments like The Willows enable residents to stay living in the area where they grew up, helping to maintain rural family life.

Graduate engineer Leighton Thompson and farm shop worker Clare Butler have strong links with nearby Claughton while bakery worker Sophie Jarvis and farmer Michael Slater have family just a few miles away in Barnacre. Both couples are expecting the arrival of their babies in June.

“We started looking for a house of our own to rent. It needed to be local and something we could afford. When we saw the plans for The Willows we knew straight away it was where we wanted to start family life together,” said Leighton. “We’re really excited.”

Such is the demand for affordable rented property in Wyre that all eight two-bedroom houses and two-bedroom bungalows had already been allocated to local people even before building work was complete.

The handover completes the latest phase of affordable housing development in Bilsborrow which Regenda Homes began building a decade ago. We have similar developments currently under construction right across the North West.
