Listen: BBC chats with Regenda Homes about Grove Street memory book

BBC Radio Merseyside spoke to Kevin Short and Sarah Thomas about their public appeal for photographs of one of Liverpool's most famous estates.

Grove Street has been home to many talented people over the years, but maybe none more so than musical group The Real Thing, singers of 1976 hit 'You To Me Are Everything'.

The band members used to live at the scheme and have been in conversation with Kev Short about a historical memory book the Merseyside Homes Team are publishing to commemorate the flats before they are redeveloped.

In an interview with BBC Radio Merseyside on Sunday 5 April, Kev told listeners:
"What we’re trying to do here is a community engagement project. Many residents at Grove Street have lived there for a long time, including some for over 30 years and we just wanted to hear from residents about their memories and tales."

The band have agreed to allow the Merseyside Homes Team to use the name of their hit song on the cover of the book, which has been painted by a Regenda Homes tenant.

Sarah went on to urge listeners to come forward:
"Were moving into new times in Grove Street with the redevelopment coming up and I think it is really important to capture all those great memories from the area. Since I’ve been the Project Officer I’ve met some great people in such a short space of time and all of them have got wonderful, brilliant, stories to tell."

"If any body has got any pictures, bring them forward. We are working with a number of different residents who are giving us their old pictures. It’s great. Any pictures, any memories, please get in tough."

If you have pictures from the area you can call Regenda Homes directly on: 0344 736 0066 or contact Kev Short on Twitter @KevRegenda
