Pest infestations

Sometimes pests can get into homes. Some are our responsibility to deal with, and some are yours.

If you’re not sure, call us on  0344 736 0066  and we’ll help.

What you're responsible for

You’ll need to deal with these pests yourself:

Fleas and Bed Bugs
Contact your local council’s environmental health team for advice and treatment.

Insects
This includes:

  • Flies
  • Ladybirds
  • Beetles
  • Ants
  • Spiders

You can speak to your local council for help or buy sprays and powders from shops and supermarkets.

Bats
Bats are protected by law. If they’re roosting in your loft, contact your local council’s environmental health team.

Damage from Pests
We’re not responsible for damage to your belongings caused by pests. We recommend having home contents insurance to protect your items.

Recharges
You may be charged if it’s clear that an infestation was caused by your actions – for example, by letting rubbish build up inside or outside your home.

What we're responsible for

No matter what type of home you live in, we’ll deal with:

Vermin

  • Rats
  • Mice
  • Squirrels

Insects

  • Wasps
  • Cockroaches
  • Silverfish
  • Woodlice

Call us on 0344 736 0066 to report a problem. We’ll ask our pest control contractor, Acorn Environmental, to visit. They’ll contact you directly to arrange an appointment.

It may take a few visits to fully remove vermin. Acorn will lay bait and block any holes they’re using to get in.

Bees
Bees are protected. If you have honeybees at your home, we’ll ask Acorn to safely move the hive.

Birds
If birds are nesting in your loft, contact us. Acorn will visit and arrange a safe solution. Birds can’t be moved until their young have left the nest. For extra advice, contact your local council’s environmental health team.

Communal Areas

If you live in a building with shared indoor or outdoor spaces, we’re responsible for treating any pest problems in those areas.
