Support and money advice for the festive season

We understand that this time of year can be financially difficult for many people - and if you’re struggling, we encourage you to reach out to us.
We’ve rounded up support and advice available to support you during the festive period and beyond.
Regenda Income Team
Did you know, our Income Team offers budgeting advice to help you prepare for the festivities and winter months to make sure you don’t fall into rent arrears. With the still increased cost of living and rising price of fuel, our specialist team can also help with energy debts and may be able to access additional benefits for you.
In 2023/24, the team helped 986 Regenda Residents secure an additional £1.8 million in benefits and grants. This was money that they did not know they were entitled to and was used to help keep up with rent payments and living expenses.
Food support over Christmas
Please talk to us if you’re struggling to pay your rent and put food on the table over the festive period.
There is also support in your local area :
Liverpool Community Food Support
Pension Credit & The Winter Fuel Payment
If you are over State Pension age, you may be eligible to claim Pension Credit, even if you own your home or have savings.
People who claim Pension Credit may also be able to get the Winter Fuel Payment and other help with heating costs.
You could be eligible for Pension Credit if your weekly income is below £218.15, or £332.95 if you have a partner who lives with you. (Please note, in some cases the income level may be higher.)
Housing Benefit is ending
Housing Benefit is ending and will be replaced by Universal Credit for people of working age.
Look out for a letter called a Universal Credit Migration Notice from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) explaining what you’ll need to do and when.
You might have already received yours. It’s important that you follow the instructions in the letter, otherwise your benefits will stop. If you’re concerned about moving on to Universal Credit and what this may mean for your finances or if you need any support to apply, please get in touch with our Income Team.
Universal Credit – keep your journal up to date
If you claim Universal Credit, it’s really important that you keep your journal up to date.
If your rent and/or service charge amount has changed, you must update your journal with your new amounts.
If you haven’t yet updated your journal, you may be paid the wrong housing costs, which could see you receive an overpayment (which you will have to repay) or an underpayment (which means you will fall into rent arrears).
If you’re struggling to pay your rent, for whatever reason, please get in touch with your local officer.
Loan Sharks – support is available
Loan sharks are dangerous because victims often have to pay back twice of what they’ve borrowed and are subject to a range of exploitative tactics.
There has been a significant uptick in illegal lenders operating online – especially on social media platforms – but there is help available!
If you're worried about a friend or family member, or if you need help yourself, Stop Loan Sharks can offer confidential advice and support. Their Live Chat is available on the website between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday – or they can be contacted via a 24/7 helpline on 0300 555 2222. You can also visit: www. stoploansharks.co.uk
