Young parent lives independently thanks to Regenda Homes

Baby and mun's feet

Thanks to our Young Parent support service, a resident now has the confidence and life skills to live independently.

Regenda Homes resident Jenny* started using the Young Parent support service after she was referred by social services.

Jenny was abused by her ex-partner and experienced domestic abuse. She was scared to approach social care in case her children were taken away.

After she moved in to the scheme, she experienced support for the first time. Jenny was able to access support services, training and education that helped to develop her confidence.

“Regenda Homes provided a safe place for me and my children. I now have a lot more confidence and I am a lot more independent due to living at the scheme. I can now handle myself and I don’t take any grief. I understand more about what domestic abuse is, thanks to the staff supporting me and the courses they found for me.

“I feel confident now to go alone to the park, pram walks, playgroups and shopping, due to the support from staff and agencies and interacting with other parents”.

Now Jenny has moved on to independent accommodation, she reflects back on how Regenda Homes staff helped her to move on.

“Staff supported me to find a suitable property to move in to. They helped me with the whole process from sign-up, to getting white goods from a crisis fund, with organising my bills at my new address and changing my benefits over. They even supported me when my fridge broke. I managed to sort some queries out myself due to the skills that staff had taught me.

“Thanks to the Young Parent support service, I am now more confident, independent, have developed life skills such as budgeting and cooking, I feel safe, I can interact with others and I am a role model to other vulnerable young Mums”.

Regenda Homes’ Young Parent Support service provides supported accommodation to young people who need housing related support. It aims to enable young parents with a range of needs, to move on and live independently in permanent accommodation.
