Maritime Grange fundraising success continues!

Our independent living scheme, Maritime Grange, has raised more than £10,000 for local charities in the last five years!

As recognition for their efforts, fundraisers from local charities visited the scheme recently to thank residents for their many contributions over the years.

Residents Pam, Dave and Peter have been baking, organising community events, hosting bingo and more in return for a donations to local charities like Clatterbridge, Claire House, RNLI and North West Ambulance service.

Pam is the scheme’s resident expert baker who works so hard to make sure every week they’ve got pastries, cakes and savouries ready for sale at their community events.

Peter and Dave coordinate activities including the Lantern Walk - a 2.5km walk along the promenade from Seacombe Ferry Terminal to New Brighton, and donations of clothes and nursery supplies for local playgroups in need.

After Covid, it was tough to encourage neighbours out into the communal area even after the restrictions lifted. Pam, Dave and Peter all worked hard to organise weekly events that everyone, no matter their mobility, could get involved in a way that felt safe and inclusive.

Senior Housing Officer, Sarah Thomas said:
“Dave, Peter and Pam are just brilliant, you’ll always see Pam cooking for everyone, they all really care for each other. Some people may not have relatives who can do that but everyone here are really tight knit.”

“As well as all their work to raise money for charities, they do a lot for each other and their neighbours. I’m so proud of them all. I feel like we’re all a bit of a family and that’s because of how kind everyone is here, they’ve all got amazing hearts and what they’ve been doing to fundraise is just amazing!”

Theresa, one of the resident’s at Maritime Grange has lived in the scheme for 25 years, she is 92 and shared that her pillar box red dancing shoes, her son and her church is what keeps her energetic youth!

“I love living here, our housing officer Sarah is great, I love having her here with us and there’s always something going on, it’s nice to be able to chat with everyone and get my dancing shoes on!”

Rhianna McDermott, Merseyside Regional Fundraiser from North West Air Ambulance Charity shared:
“Everyone at the North West Air Ambulance Charity are incredibly grateful to the remarkable residents at Maritime Grange for supporting the local air ambulance. Contributions from community groups like Maritime Grange play a crucial role in sustaining our lifesaving missions.”

Clatterbridge fundraiser Elspeth Wilson said:
“It was so lovely to be able to meet Peter, Pam, Dave and all the residents of Maritime Grange and to thank them in person for their incredible support over the past 4 years helping to raise £4,000. Hopefully, we can join you again soon at another coffee morning!”
