Working to keep you safe – Meet our Safeguarding Team

Safeguarding means taking steps to protect people’s health, wellbeing and rights so all people can live safely away from abuse, neglect or harm.

Meet Deniece, our Safeguarding Coordinator at Regenda. As part of Safeguarding Adults Week (17th – 21st November), we met with Deniece to discuss the steps Regenda has in place to keep you safe.

What does the average day look like in the Regenda Safeguarding Team?
The day starts with looking over any reports that have come in overnight. We look over every report to see if there is any danger of serious harm.  We’ll give cases to the right people to make sure the right support is in place from the beginning. This might mean they are looked after by us in the Safeguarding team, a Neighbourhood Officer or someone from Asset Management.

What kind of incidents do you deal with in the safeguarding team?
The Safeguarding Team helps with lots of different things. This could be someone being treated unfairly, feeling scared at home, or needing extra support. Such as:

  • Financial abuse
  • Controlling and coercive behaviour
  • Hoarding
  • Domestic abuse
  • Home invasion
  • Neglect.

What help can you provide?
Our job is to keep you safe. We work with the police, doctors, charities, social services and other services to make a plan that helps you feel safe and supported.
We also have a list of trusted partners who help with different problems. No matter what someone is going through, we try to find the right help.

Who else helps with safeguarding at Regenda?
All staff at Regenda get safeguarding training when they start their role and it is refreshed either every year or every two years depending on their job.
Every person also has access to log a safeguarding form, and we encourage staff to make a log whenever they see something that they think makes someone unsafe. Whether that is one of our Gas Engineers or Neighbourhood Officers.

Everyone at Regenda helps keep people safe. We have staff in every area who are specially trained in safeguarding.
All new staff get training when they start, and they keep learning every year or two depending on their job. If any staff member, like a Gas Engineer or Neighbourhood Officer, sees something worrying, they can fill out a safeguarding form to get help started.
