For criminal behaviour, including threats or violence, call the police on 999 in an emergency or 101 for non-emergencies.
What is safeguarding?
Keeping people safe from harm is called safeguarding. This includes children, young people and adults who may be at risk.
We support people who may be at risk of abuse or neglect. To do this, we look out for signs that something might be wrong. We treat everyone with dignity and respect, listen to their views, and help them make their own choices. This helps people live as safely as possible.
- Abuse means treating someone badly.
- Neglect means not giving someone the care they need.
Abuse or neglect can happen once or many times. It can be done on purpose or by mistake. Sometimes, it is also a crime. Anyone can cause harm - a partner, friend, neighbour, carer, another customer, someone in a position of trust, or even a stranger.
If you think someone is in danger or needs urgent medical help, call 999 straight away and speak to the emergency services.
