Regenda scoops top award and signs hospital lease for new office space

Regenda Homes’ 10 year vision for Fleetwood has been named Regeneration Scheme of the Year at the 2021 Northern Housing Awards.

This multi-million-pound project began in 2016, when Regenda invited residents to be part of a community project, aimed at shaping the long-term vision for Fleetwood. This resulted in a 10-year vision being created and saw Regenda commit to long-term regeneration investment in the town, which will be in the region of £40 million over the 10 years.

Award judges said that this was an “excellent example of a holistic and inclusive approach to placemaking, which extends beyond physical assets to transform the long-term fortunes and wellbeing of an area.”

As part of this 10-year vision, Regenda Homes is moving to new premises due to the expansion of services they offer in the area and is delighted to seal their commitment to move into Fleetwood Hospital, signing the lease on 5,000sq ft of office space on the ground and first floor of the building. The Learning Foundry, which is part of The Regenda Group, will offer new and exciting employment and training opportunities, including apprenticeships, traineeships and courses for adults throughout Fleetwood.  Regenda Homes will be part of a hub of organisations located within the hospital that aim to improve the lives of people living in Fleetwood.

M&Y Maintenance and Construction, part of The Regenda Group, will carry out refurbishment works to Regenda’s new office and will convert the existing office on Lord Street into three-bedroom homes.

Steve Newsham, Regional Director for Regenda Homes, said: “To sign the lease on our new office and win Regeneration Scheme of the Year for our work in Fleetwood in the same week is an incredible feeling. Moving to the hospital is a huge part of our investment plans for the area and this partnership with the Fleetwood Trust is a big part of our plans to ensure that residents have the right opportunities where all can thrive.”

The Fleetwood Trust acquired the hospital building in November 2018, beginning an extensive regeneration program to provide a venue for local services and support. The Pantry, part of the Fleetwood Together food support, opened in 2020; as lockdown eases Blackpool, Fylde & Wyre Volunteer Centre have resumed their community groups and NHS outpatient services continue to be available to the public. Planning permission for the next phase: multi-use spaces, a community café and a community garden was approved in February this year.

Charley Wilkinson, Chief Executive of the Fleetwood Trust, said, “Congratulations to Regenda on their fantastic award win. We are thrilled to welcome Regenda Homes and the Learning Foundry as the latest tenants in our vision to create a vibrant and sustainable community hub for Fleetwood. The services will include a community kitchen and dining area, support for those seeking employment, youth facilities, financial support and a business incubator. The Fleetwood Trust looks forward to working with Regenda and all our tenants on many exciting opportunities for local residents in the years ahead.”
