Supporting safer communities – Our partnership with The Paul Lavelle Foundation
Everyone deserves to feel safe in their home, and with the people that live there. At Regenda, creating safe, supported communities means working closely with specialist organisations in our communities who can offer our customers, and our staff, guidance and support.
That’s why we’re proud to work in partnership with The Paul Lavelle Foundation, a Merseyside‑based charity dedicated to raising awareness of male domestic abuse and supporting male victims and survivors.
The Paul Lavelle Foundation was founded in 2018 and is now one of the UK’s leading specialist services for male domestic abuse victims. They offer support and healthy relationship education across Merseyside and beyond.
Why are we working together?
We’re partners with The Paul Lavelle Foundation so we can provide a better support service to residents living our communities suffering domestic abuse.
The team will support us to:
- Improve safety planning across our homes
- Provide more education on healthy relationships
- Give our frontline staff training to better identify and support those at risk
- Break the taboo around male domestic abuse
- Create safer communities for families, children, and individuals.
Domestic abuse is a crime, just like any other. The more openly we speak about it, the more confident people will feel to report it and seek help.
Accessible and non‑judgemental support
Anyone needing support can reach the Paul Lavelle Foundation easily through a form on their website. Once submitted, the team aims to call back within 48 hours to talk through the situation and identify the safest and most effective next steps.
The Foundation provides each person with a dedicated advocate and offers one‑to‑one therapeutic sessions focusing on emotional support, resilience, healthy relationship understanding, boundary setting, and general wellbeing.
By working with The Paul Lavelle Foundation, we want to let more residents know that help and support is available.
Spotting the signs of domestic abuse
Our frontline staff are trained to spot the signs of domestic abuse but there are some things to look out for:
- Sudden changes in behaviour, such as becoming quiet or withdrawn
- Notable changes in appearance or rapid weight loss
- Differences in eating habits
- Loss of financial independence
- Job loss
- Reduced contact with friends or family.
The Paul Lavelle will be providing training to our Domestic Abuse Champions, Mental Health First Aiders and all frontline staff working with customers in our communities to make sure our teams are spotting the signs of domestic abuse.
What to do if you’re worried about someone in your community
If you’re concerned that a neighbour or someone in your community may be experiencing domestic abuse, it’s important to approach the situation with care:
- Don’t judge
- Don’t blame
- Don’t try to be a therapist
- Simply listen and offer reassurance
- If it’s safe and the person is willing, encourage them to make a referral
- If there’s an urgent risk or someone is in immediate danger, always call 999.
