Community hero receives Royal stamp of approval from Queen’s representative

Neil McEwen has been recognised for his hard work in providing food and care packages to the local community by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Merseyside.

Neil, Environment Officer for Regenda Homes, which provides social housing across the North-West, received a letter from Mr Mark Blundell, thanking him for his work in helping vulnerable residents during the coronavirus lockdown.

Mr Blundell, Lord-Lieutenant of Merseyside, wrote: “As the personal representative of Her Majesty The Queen, I am writing to thank you for the excellent commitment that you made in supporting those vulnerable and shielding in your community during lockdown and the steadfastness that you have shown in supporting your friends and colleagues at Regenda Homes over the past three years.”

Mr Blundell was appointed by The Queen in 2017 and performs a number of ceremonial duties for the armed forces and reserve forces.

Neil, who lives in Bootle, said: “I’m absolutely made up! A lot of our older tenants weren’t able to go to the shops when we went into lockdown, so to help them in any way I could was the main thing for me. I just see it as part of my job. I can’t wait to show this letter to my grandkids one day!”

Steve Blackburn, Regional Director Merseyside for Regenda Homes, proudly presented the letter to Neil.

Steve said: “This is truly deserved. Like all our staff, Neil works exceptionally hard to deliver the best service to all our residents and we are very proud of him. They’re in safe hands with people like Neil working for us.”

The letter arrived after Kevin Short, Housing and Neighbourhood Services Team Leader for Regenda Homes, brought Neil’s work to the attention of the Lord-Lieutenant.

The Lord-Lieutenant went on to say, “I have no doubt that what you have done has brought much relief, comfort and joy to many, and for this you should be justifiably proud of yourself – thank you."
