Hollinwood thriving with Princes’ Trust funding

Funding from the Princes’ Trust will be used to support young people living in Hollinwood, helping them to access training and employment opportunities through local partners and businesses.
Thriving Hollinwood's Future Economy project will aim to improve the strength and resilience of the whole neighbourhood, including individuals, families and community organisations, through innovative and exciting projects. Regenda Homes is the lead body of the Thriving Hollinwood project partnership
Launched at the end of October, this new project will include:
- New, local training programmes to improve skills and experience
- Work experience opportunities
- Access to employment and apprenticeships
- Employment support and confidence building
- A mentoring programme for local young people, with links to local businesses
- A Youth Voice forum, to ensure we listen to the experience of young people to more effectively meet their needs
- A focus on sustainability beyond this year’s funding
Bill Lovatt, Regional Director of Regenda Homes, said: “The challenges that young people face has increased significantly, particularly in communities such as Hollinwood. The number of young people aged 16-24 who are out of work has been consistently among the highest in Oldham, indicating the need for new options and interventions.
By working creatively through Thriving Hollinwood, we aim to raise aspirations, improve life chances and increase sustainable employment. The aim is to have a project with longer-term impact, helping local young people to begin a journey of change that fulfils their potential.”
The project was launched by the Mayor of Oldham, Jenny Harrison, who said: “We’re very grateful to the Prince’s Trust, who are providing most of the funding for this project. As always, they’re working closely with us to focus on the opportunities provided for young people in this area.
In conclusion, I’d like to wish all the partners well in this venture but, especially, to encourage local young people to come forward and take advantage of the opportunities available.”
Regenda Homes is part of a group of businesses and charities, all focused on regenerating places by working with people to create the opportunities they need to thrive.
