Mayor's Neighbourhood Fund opens early to support Regenda residents in Liverpool

The Mayor's Neighbourhood Fund (MNF) is designed to help families bearing the brunt of austerity and is set aside for people struggling to get access essentials like food, clothes, and housing. Given the current situation with the coronavirus, the fund has been released early to support people struck by the crisis.

Having secured over £3,000 from the fund, Regenda’s aim is to reach out to the most vulnerable residents in the Liverpool Central area to deliver vital supplies including food and toiletries to get through the current period of isolation.

The items will be distributed by Regenda Homes staff with help from construction and maintenance firm M&Y who have kindly donated staff time and transport to assist in getting the goods out to where they are needed most.

Sarah Thomas, Housing Project Officer who applied for the funding said:

“We are grateful to receive this funding from the Mayor's Neighbourhood Fund, it will be a great boost to support the work we are already doing in the community and a massive help to residents who are struggling to cope in these challenging and uncertain times.”

Cllr Nick Small, who represents Central Ward, which covers the City Centre and Kensington Fields, said:

“I am pleased that through the Mayor's Neighbourhood Fund (MNF), my ward colleagues Cllr Christine Banks, Cllr Maria Toolan and I have been able to offer £20,000 in funding to front line organisations that operate in Central Liverpool. Regenda Homes will one of the organisations utilising this funding and helping us to minimise the impact of this devastating virus in our communities”.

In the last 10 days alone, Regenda have made over 3000 welfare calls to their vulnerable customers and those aged over 60 in an effort to provide advice and guidance on health, welling and assistance with financial concerns. They are now opening up that offer of support to any of their residents who would like a regular phone call to talk through any issues they may have or even to just talk to someone and have a chat if feeling alone and isolated.
