Kind hearted builders give up their spare time to volunteer for TV property makeover show

Staff from M&Y Maintenance and Construction are taking part in the latest BBC DIY SOS project.

Volunteers from the company’s Lancashire depot at Poulton-le-Fylde were quick to respond to an appeal for help to save a vandalised building in nearby Blackpool which is used by local carers.

Multi skilled labourer Jonny Durnan, plasterer Chris Wilson and bricklayers Joe Channing and Paul Passmore were among the first to turn up and get involved.

It is the second time M&Y, which is part of the Regenda Group, has volunteered to take part in the popular TV property makeover show.

Plasterer Chris Wilson, who also took part in the DIY SOS to create new homes for ex-servicemen in Manchester last October, said: “As soon as I found out the BBC was looking for more trades to get involved in this project I couldn’t wait to volunteer. It’s a really brilliant thing to do and so rewarding. TV presenter Nick Knowles is a great guy and the rest of the team really appreciates us being there.”

After the newly refurbished building is revealed on television, it will become a base for thousands of unpaid carers.
