Save money while you drive!

Do you need the air-conditioning?
Using the AC at low speeds takes more fuel, try opening the windows instead while driving around.
Turn off the engine while you wait
Whilst outside the shops or waiting to pick someone up it saves more fuel to have the engine off while you wait.
Minimise stored weight in the car.
The heavier the car the more fuel is used. To save extra fuel take down roof racks or top boxes that aren’t being used to stop drag on the car.
Driving fast costs fuel
Driving at 70mph will use approximately 9% more fuel than if you were driving at 60mph and up to 15% more fuel than if you were driving at 50mph.
Check tyre pressures regularly
Check your tyres regularly. Under inflated tyres makes your car use more fuel.
Listen to your vehicle
When you need to change up or down in gears…do it! Being in a low gear while harshly accelerating costs you cash.
Drive Smoothly
Accelerate and brake gently to save money on fuel as well as reduce wear and tear on your vehicle.
Plan your journey
Check traffic updates like road works or accidents before you set off. Smart phone apps like Google maps have new features which look at real-time traffic and road conditions to give the most energy efficient route.
Try to keep moving
When you come to a complete stop and then start off again it uses more fuel so when coming to lights or junctions slow down early (form your own queue) to save fuel.
In addition to all those tips, making sure your is vehicle serviced in line with your manufacture’s guidelines will keep your vehicle running at optimum levels.
There are also free smart phone apps available that compare local fuel prices so you can fill up at the cheapest stations.
