The Regenda Group crowned champions in the Business Fives football tournament raising £280 for Centre 56

The Regenda Group are through to the English National Finals of the Business Fives charity football tournament after winning the “Europa League” in a regional event and raising £280 for Centre 56 along the way.

John Aldridge, Liverpool Football Club and Tranmere Rovers legend, presented the team with the trophy after they won the knockout phase of the charity 5-a-side tournament.

The Regenda Group submitted two teams in the Business Fives competition; 'Regenda A’ and ‘Regenda B’, made up of players from: M&Y, Redwing, The Learning Foundry and Regenda Homes. The two teams were then pitted against 12 other organisations from across the North-West.

There were only three places up for grabs at the English National Finals: two for the “Champions League” finalists and one for the winner of the “Europa League” knockout stages of the tournament.

As Regenda ‘A’ and ‘B’ could not play against each other, they were placed in separate phases of the competition after completing the group stage.

‘Regenda B’ went on to beat MSB and SysGroup en route to the final, where they won 3-2 against Service Source to lift the coveted “Europa League” trophy.

Unfortunately, ‘Regenda A’ were knocked out of the “Champions League”, which was eventually won by Quooker after they beat Mott MacDonald in the final.

Interestingly though, ‘Regenda B’ had previously beaten Quooker in their group stage, so there could be a rematch at the national event.

The aim of the day was to raise money for charity and collectively the teams collected over £1000 for good causes across the region.

The focus now switches to the English National Finals, which take place on Wednesday 8 April in Manchester and will act as another chance to raise money for Centre 56, which helps families who have suffered, or are at risk of, domestic abuse or a crisis situation.
